Why I do not, and will not, use (Gen)AI

Due to the sheer volume of reasons for not using AI, this cannot be but an exclusive account of mine.

I do not use AI because my education predates the invention, proliferation and normalization of the technology.

I do not use AI because I value academic and intellectual integrity, upon which it inherently infringes, being fundamentally based on various combinations of plagiarism, fabrication, and falsification.

I do not use AI because I am capable, and believe in the importance, of thinking and working for myself.

I do not use AI because it is materially dependent on ecocidal land use, extractive and exploitative geopolitical practices, directly harming human and non-human life in ways that threaten to accelerate mass extinction and render the planet uninhabitable, in a way that disproportionately harms oppressed peoples first and foremost.

I do not use AI because it contributes to the centralization and privatization of epistemic resources by an oppressively rapacious and misanthropic ruling class that benefits from the aforementioned destruction and views the negative consequences with a mix of desire and indifference.

I do not use AI because it dehumanizes its users while degrading their cognitive and intellectual capacities and their psychological wellbeing. It is intended to replace thinking.

Even if deprived of my scruples I would not use AI because I understand how it works: it is a lie, fundamentally incapable of delivering on what has been deceitfully promised, a cheap and superficial parlour trick.

I do not use AI, I will not use AI, and neither should you!
